
We are emotional beings. This makes us humans and in some cases. it makes us vulnerable. Scammers will always take advantage of these emotions. They know how to trigger emotions that will favour their motives. They say what we want to hear and they know what will excite us. Our desperation for money is used to take money from our pockets. The story of a Trojan Horse, appears useful but the reality is, it is detrimental.

Turn R100 to R5000 in 24hrs.
Scammers will promise to grow your R100 to become R5000 within 24hrs. This is impossible but sounds enticing. They are working tirelessly to get as much money as possible from your account. Now we are approaching Festive season. This is the best season for them. People will be getting bosses. Investments will be maturing and stokvel money will be split amongst members. They will be on your email inbox, phone and social media and will always try to get your attention at all times. They will be presenting lucrative deals to you. Ignore them.
Phishing emails, sms, WhatsApp texts, etc with links
Scammer will send you messages about money you have inherited from your family member abroad. You have lottery abroad and to claim that money and need to send them money for the paperwork. And you will start to hear about stocks, forex and cryptocurrency investments that is making them money. All of a sudden, they want to help other people to also make money at a small fee or no fee at all. Some scammers go as far as stealing identity of well-known Financial Service Provider. What I can advise, never invest with someone who just sent you investment opportunity.
Advice to you
Stay away from links from people you know or you don’t know. Some friends can forward you a link with bad links that will grant scammers access to your devices. If you didn’t play lotto, how did you win it? You don’t have a relative abroad and now you have a claim against their estate. Don’t allow your desperation get on your way. Fraudsters want to trigger your emotions. Emotional decisions might cost you. If you need financial advice, you better talk to a financial advisor.
